Depression Prevention: A Five-Step Participatory Performance Program (2008) was a commissioned project for Urban Concerns project at Bild Museet in Umeå, Sweden. Upon arriving, I learned about the many cases of deep depression that often result in suicide during winter. In response to this, I worked with a clinical psychologist at Sunderby Hospital in discussing what practices could be adopted in preventing depression. Some of the things he suggested were physical movement, joining a choir 'to open up the chest', being with people, and light therapy amongst other things. I came up with a five-step program that people, after filling out a form of consent, could be part of. The 5-step program was an immersive experience that included dancing to ABBA, singing in and with a choir to open up the chest, and ultraviolet light therapy.
